About This Event
Take a break from the busy pre Christmas rush and join us for a full day - slowing down in a beautiful setting to create organic vessels from natural materials such as Bangalow Palm sheaths.
In the morning session, our workshop leader Elizabeth Ellean will guide and help choose suitable sheaths, working with stitching techniques to make your own vessel. The bangalow palm is a native palm from the east coast of Australia and the sheaths are easily harvested and worked into interesting organic forms.
After a delicious lunch we will explore the possibilites of using recycled materials to create a stitched coil basket. This ancient skill has been used throughout history to create items like fish traps and vessels for carrying food and other essentials.
All materials are provided, but please either bring your own apron, or purchase a gorgeous botanical hand dyed 100% linen apron created especially by Elizabeth for our workshop. (choose this option when you book your ticket.) Its a lovely momento of the day.
Our full day experience:
The workshop is held at Trevally House on Dangar Island, a unique and beautiful waterfront location on the Hawkesbury River. Arrival to the island is etiher by vintage ferry (timetable available online) and walk around to Trevally House, or choose the transport option in your ticket and be collected from Hawkesbury River Marina, Brooklyn by private boat.
Your hosts Sunny & Brett will be on hand all day and provide a delicious morning tea on arrival, lunch and we end the day with a glass of prosecco before heading back to the mainland.
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements when booking.
About Elizabeth:
ELizabeth is a former textile arts teacher and resident of Dangar Island. Transforming natural fibres found in the garden and on local walks became a hobby for Elizabeth "Now when walking on the island I see everything with a different mindset and I'm constantly pondering the possibilities of plants, bark and pebbles that I find in my travels." Turning these treasures into a useful vessel is not only practical but a thing of beauty.
We are looking forward to a wonderful day creating on our beautiful river.
