About This Event
All helping professionals will encounter emotionally dysregulated clients in their practice, and at times the helper will also experience their own emotional dysregulation. While the experience is common, it can be uncomfortable, challenging to navigate and a contributing factor to burn out and compassion fatigue. It is therefore vital that helping professionals have a strong understanding of why emotion dysregulation occurs and how to best support their clients.
This 7.5 hour workshop will:
- Unpack what emotion dysregulation is, how to identify it, and what the impacts of emotion dysregulation are on the brain and body
- Explore how to support clients to identify their "early warning signs" of emotion dysregulation
- Introduce concepts such as the "window of tolerance" and the "brain-body connection"
- Briefly introduce participants to mental health conditions which frequently present with emotion dysregulation symptoms, including Borderline Personality Disorder, trauma and Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Explore a variety of practical interventions for emotion dysregulation drawn from therapeutic frameworks such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
