About This Event
I have chosen three tunes that everyone will probably know. This means we can focus on other details rather than learning the tunes.
Concepts covered will be:
- Chord formation, timing, rhythm and voicings, alternative choices and variations.
- Soloing: arpeggios, technique, phrasing, note choice, decoration, expression, simplicity, groove, timing and problem solving.
We will be going through various gypsy jazz concepts and techniques via the following tunes:
- Joseph Joseph
- Castle of Dreams
- Sheik of Araby
These are tunes that a lot of gypsy jazz players will know already. If you don't know them, don't worry, and I will email you a lead sheet in plenty of time to familiarise yourself with the music.
Other tunes will come up and be discussed as we go.
Thre is flexibility built into the workshop to cover questions and concepts that will come up.
Numbers are limited to 15 attendees to provide maximum benifit for those involved.
All attendees are invited to participate in the show that evening at Smiths Alternatiive . We will perform these tunes at the gig in the second set. Show takes place from 7PM till 9PM. There is no extra charge. Price of admission is included in the workshop ticket. The event will be listed on the Smiths Alternative website
For the players that were at last years Ozmanouche I will say it was great to hear how everyone's playing on the deck has improved so much. Especially the rhythm, so well done guys! I am happy to help everyone on their gypsy jazz journey and provide tools for everyones betterment as a musician.
If you haven't attended before, please come along and get involved. The workshop will also benefit other instrumentailsts as well as guitar players.
I look forward to seeing you and making the music.
