In 1995, actor Adrian Lukis took on the role of roguish Mr Wickham in the acclaimed BBC production of ‘Pride and Prejudice’. In his first visit to Australia since then, he will be in conversation with literary historian & President of the Jane Austen Society of Australia, Susannah Fullerton.
A familiar face from TV dramas, Lukis has appeared in Death in Paradise, Peak Practice, Maigret, The Bill, Judge John Deed, Miss Marple, Grantchester, and many other series.
In his one-man show, ‘Being Mr Wickham’, first staged in 2019, an ageing George Wickham, reflects on his debauched past. After successes in England and New York, its Australian premiere is in Sydney.
Susannah talks to Adrian about this new production, his acting career, the fun and challenges of acting the role of such an infamous Jane Austen character and how it changed his life. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
